3 KEY LESSONS FROM WISDOM AND MEDITATION

When we are born, we come into this world without any possessions. When life progresses, we start collecting all kinds of things that we feel are valuable to us. As we build our careers, grow our success, and start to earn more money, often the things that used to be so valuable to us, now lose their value. We want that bigger house, that more luxurious car or that cinema size TV that is equipped with the latest technology. And if we can afford it, why not?
However, we attribute great value to our possessions and we go to great lengths to keep them. We often stay in jobs that we don’t enjoy and make us experience stress, only to be able to keep up the life style that we created for ourselves. We make less time for fun, relaxation and connecting with our loved ones.
So, what’s true value in life? If your life would end today, would you be happy about the way you lived it? Would your possessions determine whether you have lived your life well? Or would it be the amount of love, joy and happiness you have experienced each and every day?
The only things that are truly valuable in life, are the intangible things, your thoughts, your beliefs, your feelings. They determine the happiness, joy and peace of mind you feel in your everyday life.
Here are 3 tips to create real value:
1) BRING GRATITUDE INTO YOUR LIFE
Every morning and every evening, focus your mind for 5 minutes on the good things in your life and feel the gratitude for these good things. There are always things to be grateful for, even in the most difficult times. Gratitude is a great energy to bring into your day. It helps to take the focus away from the negative things you may encounter and makes you feel more happy and peaceful. At night, it will help you to calm your mind and prepare for a relaxing good night sleep.
2) USE YOUR DAY WISELY
Remember that every day is valuable. If you waste it, it is never coming back. Invest time, energy, effort and money in growing yourself for inner benefit. A simple technique that helps put your energy on creating value is to create a not-to-do list every morning, a list of things that waste your time. Examples are: ‘Today I will not complain’, ‘Today I will not feed negativity’, or ‘Today I approach my tasks with mindfulness’.
3) CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS
The power to create true value in life, lies in you. Everything in your life finds its origin in your thoughts and beliefs. They determine your feelings and your feelings determine your actions. When you change your thoughts, everything else changes too. If you want to have a peaceful mind, change the way you think about the things that stress you out. If you want to feel happy, change the way you think about the things that make you feel unhappy. The wisdom of meditation teaches you how to do this.
